OUR RATES

I'm a paragraph. Click here to add your own text and edit me. It's easy.

Do your rates include studio time?

Our posted rates only include engineering fees. When we send you a quote for our services, we will work with a local studio and include their rates in your quote.

What budget is realistic for my project?

We work with artists from all walks of life and varying budgets, and will do our best to work with you to get a product you are happy with. When you request a quote from us, we will give you suggestions on how to maximize your budget to accomplish your goal.

RECORDING

What is included when I book a recording?

When you book a recording session through us, we will send you a quote which lays out the exact cost and included services for that session. Each project varies depending on the needs of that session. Typically, a standard recording session will include one full day at a recording studio, and at least one 3Moons engineer. A full day session is between 6-10 hours, while a half day session is anything under 6 hours.

Can everyone in my band record together?

Sure! Oftentimes, bands like to record as much as they can together as a group, and there are both advantages and pitfalls when choosing this style of recording. Recording together as a band can provide a cohesive and unified sound that captures an honest and real performance from each musician. However, this method of recording does take more preparation and setup to ensure a high-quality recording. Plan for additional setup time, and make sure your band is well rehearsed!

Is editing covered during my session?

We are more than happy to edit audio (pitch correction, time correction, vocal comps, etc.) as long as it takes place during your scheduled session time. If your session requires a large amount of editing, we strongly advise you hire two engineers for your session, so one can edit while the other can record (this will save you money!).

What is a half day vs full day?

Full-day sessions are between 6-10 hours long. We understand many artists may not want to record for this long, so we also offer half-day sessions at a cheaper rate up to 6 hours.

How many hours does it take to record a song?

A typical 3-minute song can take anywhere between a few hours to a week to record. This largely depends on the genre, style of recording, musical complexity, and many other factors. We will work with you and your budget to determine this timeframe, but our biggest piece of advice is to come to the studio prepared!

What if we want to record separately?

No problem! Many bands love the precision and attention to detail you can achieve by segregating the recording process. We suggest recording your rhythm section first to lay down a good foundation, or have your drummer play to a click track. This will ensure everyone is rhythmically synced and locked into the same tempo. This recording method requires less initial setup, but will take longer to record as each element is recorded separately.

When do I pay for my session?

Contact your engineer for specific instructions. Generally the studio must be paid before your scheduled session to guarantee a time slot, but the engineer can be paid the day of your session. As a general rule, we do not deliver any audio until the session has been paid for.

Do I need a producer?

The term producer gets thrown around a lot, and its meaning has become a bit ambiguous. A producer is often needed for artists/bands who benefit from having someone oversee their entire project from start to finish. A producer can help with creative decisions, write arrangements, choose instruments, hire musicians, schedule studio time, manage finances, and ensure the artists/bands vision comes to life. They are the creative backbone for the band - viewed almost as a member of the band that works behind-the-scenes during the entire production. We strongly recommend a producer for anyone recording a full-length album, or any new artist looking for guidance and direction.

MIXING

What is included in your mixing services?

We offer a wide range of mixing services to fit your project's budget and needs. If you're looking for a simple well-balanced mix, or a fully processed top-tier production, we've got you covered!

How many mix revisions are included?

Digital mixing includes two revisions within one month, and is more common and flexible. Analog mixing at a studio includes one final revision, which typically happens on the same day as the original mix (otherwise you’ll have to pay for more studio time). Contact your mix engineer for more details.

When do I pay for mixing?

Anytime before the final mix is delivered. As a general rule, we do not deliver a final product until the service has been paid for. Contact your engineer for specific instructions.

How many hours does it take to mix a song?

A typical 3-minute song can take anywhere between a few hours to several days to mix. This largely depends on the genre, style of mixing, musical complexity, how well the material was recorded, and many other factors. We will work with you and your budget to determine this timeframe.

Does 3Moons mix analog or digital?

We offer both analog and digital mixing services depending on your needs and budget! Digital mixing is cheaper and more flexible, while analog mixing offers that classic radio sound you've heard on thousands of records.

SCHEDULING

What is a half day vs full day?

Full-day sessions are between 6-10 hours long. We understand many artists may not want to record for this long, so we also offer half-day sessions at a cheaper rate up to 6 hours.

Is setup time part of the paid session?

Yes. If you schedule a full day (or half day) session, all setup and teardown should happen during your scheduled time at the studio. While some studios may be flexible, we ask that you plan to be done within your scheduled time. A full day session is between 6-10 hours, while a half day session is anything under 6 hours.

When do I pay?

As a general rule, we do not deliver a final product or schedule a session until the service has been paid for. Contact your engineer for specific instructions.

How do I schedule a session with 3Moons?

To schedule a session, please fill out our get a quote form and specify the desired start date. We will work with a local studio to secure a time slot that works for everyone. While we will do our absolute best to accommodate your schedule, we ask that you have a few alternate dates available if we cannot make your desired dates work.

What if I need to cancel my session?

We understand you may need to cancel your session. We request you give us one week’s notice of any cancellations or changes to your session, or we may have to charge you a cancellation fee. There is no cancellation fee if you choose to reschedule your session. If you have any concerns, please contact your engineer and they will be happy to work with you and your schedule.

LUNAR BASE

What is a Lunar Base?

The Lunar Base is a fun name for our small project recording and mixing studio based in the basement of 3Moons Engineer Gavin's home. We can cover recording, editing, and mixing in this little studio with professional results!

What types of music can be recorded there?

The Lunar Base is a small, one-room studio space that is perfect for vocals, guitar, bass, keyboard, horns, or any sort of solo instrument. Our space is small, so we recommend recording only 1-3 instruments at a time. For demo work, we can record drums with surprisingly great results!

When do I pay?

We accept a 50% deposit before your session, with the remaining 50% due at the end of your session day. Contact your engineer for specific instructions.

How do I schedule sessions at the Lunar Base?

To schedule a session, please fill out our special Lunar Base get a quote form and specify the desired start date. While we will do our absolute best to accommodate your schedule, we ask that you have a few alternate dates available if we cannot make your desired dates work.

What if I need to cancel my session?
